Maine Coon Growth Stages

Unlike most cat breeds, Maine Coons mature slowly, often taking 3 to 4 years to reach their full size. It’s always interesting to see our families being surprised at the day of pick up – ” Aww so tiny”…and then you recieve a message in 2 months “OMG! Looks like we went through a growth spurt, just like you’ve told us”. I often compare Maine Coons’ growth spurts to pop corn 🌽

Enjoy the kitten stage

That’s something I always tell our families as well. You won’t notice how quick time will fly and next thing you know your little kernel will POP and you’ll enter an era of endless trips to petstore πŸ₯© and grooming supplies.

πŸ“ So… How Big Is a Maine Coon?

A fully grown male Maine Coon often weighs in at 13–20+ pounds (5.9–9+ kg). Females are a bit smaller but still hefty, usually 8–18 pounds (3.6–8 kg).

Length-wise? Some stretch up to 40 inches long, from nose to tail. That’s longer than some medium-sized dogs. And yes, they take 3 to 4 years to grow into those chunky paws.
